HOSPITAL LATEST: FABRICE MUAMBA IS NOW IN A STABLE CRITICAL CONDITION.

23 year old Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba has collapsed, face down, on the pitch in the 41st minute of the match.

Medics spent over 10 minutes trying to resuscitate him, but efforts failed and he had to be put into an ambulance and rushed to hospital.

Players were seen crying and embracing each other as the game was subsequently called off. The fans applauded him being stretchered off and also chanted his name.

According to reports, he is with Bolton captain Kevin Davis and manager Owen Coyle.

The midfielder is said to be fighting for his life.

Witnesses say that he went down without putting his hands up.

The incident is similar to that of the collapse of Cameroonian Marc-Vivien Foé, former Man City, West Ham and Lyon Midfielder.

At around 8:30 he was reported to be breathing and in a stable condition in a London Hospital.
